    Plate:

the 'definitive' answer would be if the EIN ( last 8 digits are the same ) stamped on the engine matches the VIN on the car.

your car already doesn't match between the trim tag and the VIN. the trim tag shows the car to be a v8 ( -434 and should be -433 to match the VIN ). which does not mean that someone faked your car. back in the 60s and 70s, typographical and paperwork errors weren't all that uncommon from the factory.

According to the VIN your car is Buick model number 43307 and according to the body tag it is Fisher body style number 43407, both are correct and there is no error in the body tag or VIN because in 1967 Buick used a different scheme to indicate V6 vs V8 than was used in 1965-1966. The 8th digit of your cars VIN is a 1, which inidcates it came with a V8. If it was a 6 it would indicate it came with a six cylinder engine. 1967 was a confusing year, read about it in my posts here:

1962 was the first year for the six cylinder engine (after six cylinder production ended for the 1930 model year) and 1972 was the first year the VIN contained a digit that identified the specific engine the car came with. So, for 1962-1971 you can tell if your car came with a six or eight cylinder engine from the serial number or VIN using this:

-For 1962-1964, if the first digit of the serial number is a letter (A, B, or C), then the car came with a V6

    -For 1962-1964, if the first digit of the serial number is a number (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, or 8), then the car came with a V8

-For 1965-1966, if the third digit of the VIN is an odd number, then the car came with a V6

-For 1965-1966, if the third digit of the VIN is an even number, then the car came with a V8

-For 1967-1971, if the 8th digit of the VIN is a 6, then the car came with a six cylinder engine

-For 1967-1971, if the 8th digit is anything other than a 6, then the car came with an eight cylinder engine

Ernie, can you post a picture of your body tag? The style number should start with something other than 437. I suspect it is 434 which would indicate a V8 car. The VIN would only show a V6 car if the last 6 digits are in the 600,000 range so we would need to now the last 6 from the VIN as well. In 1967 the first 5 digits of the VIN do not code for V8 or V6, only the last 6 digits will tell you that.
