225 v6 is in the same family of engines as the small block Buick ( 350, 340, 300 ) and the 3.8L / 4.1L turbo 6 engines of the 80s. they all share timing covers. the 225 is an 'odd fire' variant of the v6. all Buick v6s from 1977 and newer used split throw crankshafts and are called 'even fire', they run much more smoothly.
conversion to one of the later engines is pretty straight forward, i think even the engine mounts are the same. if you're going to steal power steering off of one of the later engines i would take ALL of the accessories, pulleys and brackets so you don't have to worry about pulleys having the wrong spacing. v6 engines from the mid-80s and newer use serpentine belts.
for 1965, the most powerful 'period correct' option would be a 4v 300 with cast iron intake. the Buick 350 ( NOT a Chevy 350 ) was in production from 1968-80.
