I bought a 1951 Buick Special last your and never reallygave the Ventiports on the side much thought. I had read that by 1951 the Ventiports were really just decorativepieces and were non-functional, and to me, they kind of looked to be solidpieces of metal.
However, today while looking around under the hood, Idiscovered not only were there actual holes in the side of the fender that theycovered, but there were also an openings at the top of them (where the domeshaped upper part overhangs the flatter lower part shown in the attachedpicture)
Although I suspect that any air actually flowing throughwouldn’t be all that great, it does look like (at least in 1951) they still wereactually real openings and not just “decorative” as I’ve seen written in a lot of places on the internet.
