68 Riviera disc brakes on a 66 Riviera?

I have a 66 Riviera and found a 68 Riviera with Front Disc Brakes at the local Pick-N-Pull . Can I bolt them on my 66? I read someplace that there was a change to the front suspension in 68 but don't recall what it was? Has anyone don't this conversion? Or can you explain why it will not work? By the way I was looking for a Temp. Spare that would fit my 66 Riviera (5 on 5 bolt pattern) and found that a 1997 4Wheel Drive Chevy Astrovan mini spare works. It is 26.5" OD and is an 18" wheel so it will clear aftermarket disc brakes. Darrell dvbenner@yahoo.com

    1966 disc brake conversion

I'm no expert but i have owned 2 1969 Rivs, 1 1968 Riv GS, and a 1966 riv gs. The 68 had a 4 piston disc brake set up on it. Had a lot of problems with calipers leaking. Replacement calipers where a little tuff to find but are available but run about couple hundred a piece. Now next problem i had was finding replacement rotors. As far as i know not available. I ended up switching the car over to drums so i could drive it. I don't know if this helps. But i thought i would mention the issues i had with that brake system.

    68 disc brakes.

Thank you for the Reply. I found out that replacement disc for a 68 are not available for a reasonable price so I will investigate other options. Darrell

You might be better off with the Scarebird conversion because it uses relatively easy to find components from later cars.

    Disc Brake Conversion

You will definetly be better off converting to a newer style disc brake system - the parts for the '68 system, if available, are very expensive and are almost 'unobtanium' !!
