Thread: Engine Code

    Engine Code

I bought a 1950 Buick Special, 41D. I checked the stamped numbers between the distributor and the motor mount, and it does not match any numbers listed in the reference section. Could this be a Canadian number or is there more than one number stamped into the block? It looks like a lower case b or 6 which is smaller and offset, then I2I7I7 then a 4 which is a little smaller and offset from the other numbers. Anyone have any ideas???? I am lost.

    50 Special

    Buick sometimes used a b to represent 6...and I to represent 1

If your number is 6121717 4

For 1950 engine numbers are 5568000 to 6240099

and the 4 = Model Id = Special

    Hope this helps

    Thank you!!!!

OK. Now that makes more sense. The engine is supposed to be a 248, so now that I know it is a 1950 engine, I am going to make sure it is the 248 and not a different engine. I am going to try a VIN search. The VIN is 65920867. Thanks for the clarification. I feel so much better now!!!!!
