    Engine ID

Hi, I just joined Team Buick. Cool site. Glad to be here. I have a 1936 Century ready to restore. I'm not sure of the engine ID. The block numbers are on the right rear. It says: GM, then below that is 1288737-1 and below that is 6-20. The engine number books I have do not come close to these numbers. Can anyone help me out? I'd really appreciate it.

Those are casting numbers, you need the stamped number which should be on the passenger side of the engine at the front of the push rod cover. The first digit should be the series digit, which should be a 6 for Series 60 or Century. The rest of the number should be the sequential portion of the number, which should be in the range of 3001000 to 3166224.

Have a look in the reference section on identifying your motor.

in 1936, all models EXCEPT the Special came with a 320. this is also the first model year for this long run production engine ( 1936-1952 ).

the only other model available this year was the 233ci straight 8.

Hi, Jaime. I own a 1936 Buick Roadmaster and I have the same situation you had. My Engine ID is the same as yours. The only difference is at the bottom it says 10-17. I was wondering if you resolved the problem and if you did, how? Please let me know. Thank you.
