55 Special 4 Door Power Steering Question

Quick question - I am looking to convert from manual steering to power steering and have obtained a factory set-up. Now the real question arises is am I able to remove the original box from the column (appears to be so) or do I have to do a complete column removal and transfer?

I thought those early PS gearboxes were a press-fit assembly onto the column jacket. If yours isn't, you could try taking it apart, but first check to see if there is a difference in length (of the gearbox).

Kind of what I was afraid of --- but the new column I got is not the proper color so I really need to investigate this further before I work on the disassembly -- I am going to pull the entire front end sheet metal off to do this conversion because it will also allow me to do other maintenance and rewiring that I need to do for the vehicle
