    Block Oil Passage Mods

    >>>Note: this info is copy / pasted from a post *that I made* several years ago on another forum. as such, some of the links are defunct and no longer work. i'm leaving this information in the post so that if you want to do further research or use the internet wayback machine or something you don't have to start from scratch.

    Big Block Oil Mods

here is work that should be done any time you do a full rebuild on a 400 / 430 / 455 or if you are having oil pressure issues:
    Jim Weise's block mods

    Timing Cover

    Block Passages

    Optional

    Neoprene Main Seals
Front: National Part # 450446 or Federal-Mogul #470543 or National Oil Seals #450446
Rear: Fel-Pro #BS30135 or National Oil Seals #5068

Checking for Oil Pump Wear; a definite must for pressure issues

Plumb for a rear mounted Oil Pressure Gauge, much better than the front mounted stock sending unit

Strengthen the Lifter Valley; some are very leery of using Ti putties/epoxies inside their rotating assemblies, use at your own risk

    350 / Small block work
here is what Automotive Performance & Machine does to prep a Buick 350 block:

British v8 suggests v6 oil pickup, drilling the passages and has a nice article on fabbing up a racing pan:

for instance, here's an Internet Wayback Machine snapshot of the old Jim Weise info from Tri-Shield:

Weise has actually finished up his block prep page ... he just posted it to V8Buick instead of the Tri-Shield web site and i had missed it until now.

it's excellently done, and ALL Buick builders should go over it. the page is specifically for the BBB, but the V6 / SBB / Rover share most of the same design concepts in the oiling system and owners should at least familiarize themselves with what is being done on the BBB side.

the only thing that disappoints me about this thread is that Jim didn't go into the timing cover mods. ah well, he probably just plumps for a new TA cover ...
