Thread: The right thermostat ? Why ?

The right thermostat ? Why ?

I have a buick skylark 1966 convertible with the classic 300 CID .

I want the installe a new 180 deg. thermostat because the last owner has remove it !

I order a standard thermostat for my 300 CID and it is too big !?! ( 2.5 inch )
If I check the size, the thermostat for a 225 / 6 cylinder is the right size... ( 2.125 inch )
    Why ?

My engine is a 8 cylinder code number ML.

    Anybody has an idee ?

( sorry for my english. )

You are correct about the size - 2.125". It sounds like your supplier sent you an incorrect part, but I have no idea why.

    OK Ray,

Very strange because on all website I found always the 2.5 inch reference for my 4.9Liter and never the 2.125 inch.

I remove this afternoon the water outlet and check the hole.
    Effectively it is a 2.125 inch !

    Thanks again Ray : )
