    1973 buick apollo Disc Brakes?

    Does anyone know how to find out what parts from what vehicles will fit My 1973 Buick Apollo to convert to Disc Brakes? Any help would be great.

    Thanks

    the Apollo is part of the GM "NOVAS" family, also referred too as "X-body" cars.

    N = Chevrolet Nova ( 1968 to 1979 )
    O = Oldsmobile Omega
    V = Pontiac Ventura
    A = Buick Apollo ( 1973 1/2 to 1975 )
    S = Buick Skylark ( 1975 to 1979 )

    as such, you can swipe suspension components from any of the other brands and either be direct substitutions or you'll be able to adapt them in without too much difficulty. the only truly critical thing that you have to be aware of is that your 73 is a "rear steer" ( steering linkages behind the front axle as opposed to "front steer" which, you guessed it, routes the steering components out in front of the front axle ) car. therefore, you want parts from a 1968-74 in order to be compatible with your existing steering set up.

    obviously, the Chevy Nova had the longest production run and by far the greatest volume of sales. even if the Chevy parts aren't quite identical to whatever the Apollo had for a disc brake setup it would probably be worth it just in aftermarket support and parts availability to convert to Chevy parts.

    Besides the 68-74 Nova & clones, the same front suspension was also used on 67-69 Camaros and Firebirds. The problem is that discs were optional on these cars, not standard, so your chances of finding one with factory discs are pretty low.

    You might come out ahead by getting one of the aftermarket kits that includes the spindles and caliper mounting brackets. The other parts you need, like calipers, rotors, hoses, etc are replacement items and parts stores will usually carry them.
