    What 55-57 Buick models where built in the Oshawa, Ontario assembly plant

    I have a good freind who is looking for a 55-57 Buick, has to be 2 door fully restored and has to be built in Oshawa. I have found some info on VIN break downs that list the assembly plants but none list the Oshawa plant. Where can I found this info?

    During those years, only the Special and Century were built at Oshawa. Here are the 2-door models:

    Year Model Description
    1955 4411 Special 2-door tourback sedan, 6-passenger
    1955 4437 Special 2-door hardtop (Riviera), 6-passenger
    1955 4637 Century 2-door hardtop (Riviera), 6-passenger
    1956 4411 Special 2-door tourback sedan, 6-passenger
    1956 4437 Special 2-door hardtop (Riviera), 6-passenger
    1956 4637 Century 2-door hardtop (Riviera), 6-passenger
    1957 4411 Special 2-door sedan, 6-passenger
    1957 4437 Special 2-door hardtop (Riviera), 6-passenger
    1957 4637 Century 2-door hardtop (Riviera), 6-passenger

    The serial number format is different for Canada, here is the format for 1955-1957:

    1st digit is the last digit of the model year:
    5 = 1955
    6 = 1956
    7 = 1957

    2nd digit is the car make:
    4 = Buick

    3rd digit is the car series:
    4 = Special
    6 = Century

    4th and 5th digits are the model number:
    see list above

    6th digit is the number of cylinders (1955-1957 only):
    8 = V8 (all Buicks were V8’s during these years)

    Last five digits are the sequential production number unique to that particular car:
    five digits for 1951-1963, starting at 00001 for Oshawa ON
