70 Skylark Sport Mirror not flush with gasket??

Hello everyone, I just put sport mirrors on my car. But I noticed that in the front base the lower metal doesn't contact the gasket. The gap is around an 1/8". I'm sure it is something simple, but has anyone run into this issue before, and what was the solution? Thanks in advance.
