Hi, I just registered today to see if anyone here could give some much needed advice.
A friend brought a motor over the other day. I ebay stuff for them. Talked them out of this one until we did some research, but am coming up empty. I know its a Buick 430 big block, but its missing the heads. Everything else is there, including the trans, torque converter, intake, and a quadrajet carb. Everything I can find say the numbers are between the spark plugs and exhaust ports, which would be on the heads.
On the back above the bell housing it is stamped 430 and below that is 1 83424. Also, the distributor is in the front right behind the water pump, and the pistons have a "rivet like" center. Im not a Buick person, but have never seen anything like this before. could anyone out here help me identify it before these guys haul it off to the scrap yard? Thanks!
The production code number and the engine serial number are always stamped on the block itself in the location given. For 1967 I think it is on the passenger side and for 1968-1969 it is on the driver side. I've attached some pictures to give you an idea of the location. Also see here:

I'm guessing the casting number is 1383424, which doesn't narrow it down much:

If you post the stamped numbers you find, then they can be decoded and tell the year of the engine. I would think the stamped numbers should be easier to find with the heads off.
