Here's another job I recently completed on my '63 Skylark. It shows 106,000 miles, but I suspect a few more. Anyway, the wiper motor started to smell, then stop working recently. I took the end cap off and saw worn-out brushes and a well-worn commutator. I drilled out the rivits, and took it apart but couldn't find a replacement brush kit. I found that I could cut down other brushes easily, even file them, but they then immediately
broke apart. I found a site on Ebay advertising a new, government-surplus wiper for an unspecified year Pontiac which looked similar. I 'won a bid'
for the item for about 1/2 asking price, took it apart on receipt, and found that the armature, brushes and housing looked the same. I tested it, rivited it back together with my original gears, terminals, and associated housing and it works fine, for less than 1/2 NOS price. "M. J.'s Depot, P.O. Well, good for you then. And I just gotta say that 1/2 asking price is indeed a big win on our part. I too am experiencing problems with my motor. I'm looking for more windshield wiper motor varieties as not every motor I've seen are up to my standards.
