    This thread is starting to get pretty far away from the original topic, which is decoding and identification. If you want to continue with engine, rear end, or frame swaps it might be better to start a new thread in the transmission and driveline section.

    Heres my guess as what the body tag should say:

    BUICK MOTOR DIVISION
    GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION
    FLINT, MICH.
    1948 MOD. 48-41
    STYLE No. 48-4409
    BODY No. BA 483
    TRIM No. XX
    PAINT No. YY
    TOP ACC.
    BODY BY FISHER

    1948 MOD. 48-41
    1948 and 48- indicate 1948 model year
    41 = Buick model number = Series 40/Special, 4-door sedan, 6-passenger

    STYLE No. 48-4409
    48 = 1948 model year

    4409 = Fisher body style number
    4 = Buick
    4 = Series 40/Special
    09 = 4-door sedan, 6-passenger

    BODY No. BA 483
    BA = body built at Atlanta, GA plant
    483 = 483rd 4409 built at Atlanta
