    71 stage1?

THE BLOCK IN THIS 71 BIG BLOCK CAR, (STAGE1) HAS BEEN DECKED, IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY TO VERIFY THAT IT IS A STAGE MOTOR ? IS THERE SOME KIND OF ACID THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO SHOW THE "TS" STAMPED ON THE BLOCK?

effectiveness of acid washing the block surface is dependent on how much the block was decked. this may or may not be useful.

as for 'other methods' of verification, a Stage 1 would certainly have the oversized valves. you just have to pull a head to inspect them. there are other parts which are specific to Stage cars which are external to the engine assembly. for instance, only certain transmission codes will be behind a Stage engine.

the VIN can be somewhat useful. for this year it will tell you whether or not your car is actually a GS. if your car is a convertible it MUST have been built in Flint to have been an OEM Stage car. if a hardtop, it could have been built in any of three plants: Flint, Framingham Mass or Fremont Cali.
