Engine swap advice/ orig or small block?

I have a 1951 Buick Special however, I dont have a running engine. Its a 263 ci straight 8 with a dynaflow trans. We got the motor unsiezed after about a week but, were still missing some key parts. I have been presented with the opportunity to buy another one but, my buddy is telling me take it out and put in a Chevy small block because it slips rights into the dynaflow trans. Id like to keep the 263 but im not sure thats the right move I'm not restoring the 51 just want a running car to enjoy and put put around. I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on the matter. thanks - BL

For my money, a straight-8 is the ONLY way to go!

I have no clue why you would put a SBC in there. (If you want a race car, seen that and buy something else and put a blown 454 in!)

If you want to get your car back on the road with the least amount of work, go after that other straight 8 before it gets away. No engine other than a straight 8 or nailhead will bolt to a Dynaflow. If you want to run any trans other than a Dynaflow or a 3 speed manual, you will have to install an open drive rear end and rework the rear suspension.

Haha yeah I think I just had new car fever there will be no sbc in here. The 268 fell through but ended up with a 350 out of a 70s skylark

good move, Buick enthusiasts usually like Buick engines. However the large Chevrolet trucks did use Buick 'nailheads' back in the day.
