starter motor question solenoid 2 connectors

Hi guys. I recently bought a used starter motor to replace my old one. (I have a 52 super) but noticed that the one I bought has two terminals on the solenoid and my old starter only has one. Can you help me out and advise which terminal I should use? I am bypassing the stock starting unit on the carbi and use a key to start it. Hope you can help.
I am guessing this starter came out of a 1950 straight 8. Hope I can still use it.

    The solenoid need ground and +12 ( +6 ? ) to work.
So, maybe the coil inside is not connected to the ground internally, or it is connected but there s also a spare connector ( it s the case on my 79 Olds starter ).
Use an ohmeter to check if one side is grounded.

The starter should bolt up ok to the bellhousing (or Dynaflow adaptor ring) if it came off of a 248 or 263 engine. Not so sure about a 320 though.

Does one starter have a rectangular housing mounted at the terminal end of the solenoid and the other one doesn't? Inside this housing is a relay which is required for the original throttle start feature. You won't need the relay if you are using a starter button or an ignition switch with a start position. What I am getting at here is that you should be able to swap the complete solenoid assembly from one starter to the other if it will make the electrical hookup any easier.

Thanks guys, wondered if I could just change the solenoid. I think one of the terminal wires went to the generator and the other to a ignition switch. I'll give it a workout. It does bolt up fine. Not sure if its the bigger starter. the black plate is badly scarred.

Thanks guys. I dunno what I am trying to do here, so I have decided to call in an autoelectrician to do the work and I will pay attention to what he does for reference. Will let u know in a week. I am seriously tired of it a the moment. It can get to you, sometimes...
