Six months and 210 views; and no one’s got an opinion?
Who makes or sells the best Hood mount Tachometer for the 1970-72 Buick Skylarks? Several of them look the same; but they all claim to be best. Are the new ones sealed up better and don't require the heater-vacuum purge to keep moisture out?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi-
I can tell you some are backlit like the originals and others are not. It's been a while since I looked at aftermarket ones (found an original!), but that would be one thing to look for in the description if you're interested in originality.
You can also take a look over on v8buick.com and do a search there. Of there are opinions on specific repros, you're bound to find some good reading there. www.thepartsplaceinc.com seems to have favorable reviews.
Hope this helps!

Poston is gone; at least last I checked.
Never could get a good picture of what Year One had.
Finally got one off eBay from seller mattfact
I had them build one with the Buick face; and 6 cylinder tachometer inside. They never fussed a bit. I don’t have the receipt; but I think the total was around $235. Works right; and looks pretty cool.
Hi GSX,
I am agree with you.
I checked the link www.thepartsplaceinc.com ,
there is lots of information which is very much helpful for me.

I have à replica hoodtach which Will not work with my HEI ignition (tach connection) It has illumination but THE needle does not move. I put à scope on the tach output from the HEI and i see à tachsignal. That signal does not make THE hoodtach work. I think that of you have à pointer ignition it Will work!
The illuminated type hoodtach prevent THE tach from condensation. À problem that THE hoodtach originals had
I have one and you cant see the needle at night. I dont like the whole thing cause driving away from the sun in the evening the sun reflects ikn your eyes
