65 401 drivers side exhaust manifold clearance problem

I am installing a 401 into a 47 ford coupe that has been subframed with a 78 camaro stub. The drivers side exhaust manifold exits too close to the steering column . Is there a previous year manifold that exits closer to the number 8 cylinder that would interchange? Does anyone know of a company producing headers that exit close to the number 8 cylinder? I have seen the sandeson Riviera headers but they appear to exit in the same spot as the original cast iron manifold. I am also seeking a rear sump oil pan for this engine. Are these being reproduced by any company?

Hi, the only manifold that fits your discription is a 65-66 GS Skylark.. There are many different manifolds but all dump further back or foreword from that area. A picture would help find a manifold that is cheaper and easier to find, lets see what it looks like? I am a TA dealer so I can get you the 65-66 GS headers and I may know of a guy that has a new set he never used, I can call him.. Russ

    Thanks for the info, buickrodder.

I've been studying the clearance on the manifold . It is from a 1965 riv. It measures approximatly 26 inches long. I've tried to make out the casting number. 8-1356827-10 or maybe 8-1268827-10 ? I wil try and post a photo of it . I purchased the engine and a superturbine 400 transmission from a rotted out riv . I personally saw the engine in the car in running condition before purchase. I beleive the exhaust manifold to be original. There wasn't enough left of the Riv to tell if it was a GS version

Yes that dumps out the rear behind the head. If the block has LX on it it was a 65 GS Riv or just had the Super Wildcat 425.

    Oil pan possibilities?

How rare is a 57-61 rear sump oil pan for a 65 401? Do the aftermarket high volume pick up tubes work with these pans?

Use the ebay box at the top of the page and search for 1965 gs exhaust manifold, there's a set on ebay right now.
