    Dumb about old Buicks

    Hello all,
I am looking at and might buy a 1954 Buick Convertable Souer Model with the original 322 engine and a rebuilt Dyno automatic transmission. It is restorable and has many origanial parts that go with it.
Is this a rare car and will it be worth what it might cost me to restore it?
Thank you - El Paso Bill

The reference section of this site has some info about each year of car. Here is the '54 section:

    http://www.teambuick.com/reference/years/54.shtml

It shows a production of 3,343 for '54 Super convertibles. Convertibles generally had a lower production than other models and a therefore more valuable. What will it cost to restore? Depends on the current condition, the level of the restoration, if you are going to do the work or pay someone, and many other things, so I wouldn't know how to answer that.

Never restore a car with the idea that you're going to make money. Although I do most of the work myself, short of paint and upholstery, I've never broken even on a collector car, much less made money. And I've been doing this for over 30 years. Do it because you love the car. Figure on losing some money on it. Look at it this way: golfers spend a lot of money to chase a little white ball, and the ball won't take them to work if the daily car breaks down! If you make a little money, you're doing a lot better than most of us! Good luck!

    to rephrase an old adage,
The quickest way to make a small fortune in automobiles is to start with a large one. You'll be at a small one soon enough.

I've made money on a few if I don't count hours, but I'm with the guys above me - I do it for stress relief and for the pride of accomplishment.... so really, I make money on every one in better health through less stress
