Are you sure it is complete, it looks one digit short to me. Here is my guess:

X = missing digit showing series
I = 1962
4 = built at Kansas City, KS
856639 = production sequence

This serial number is complete. It's a 1948 Buick Super 50 series 56C model convertible manufactured at flint, michigan. I found the information at this link:

Well, if you had the car, why did you not say what it was when I asked, rather than saying "This gives me no help" ? People are here to assist, but if you go out of your way to be difficult, you will not get a lot of assistance.

At the time I asked, I only had the serial number, no car & no picture. I only knew it was a late forty's buick. A breakdown of what the numbers stood for would have helped. Even with the picture, I could not tell whether it was a 1947 or 1948, they look identical.
