his is the kickdown cable. it controls the downshifting when you floor the gas... The vacuum line senses the amount of load the engine is under which helps control upshifts, and the governer controls the MAX rpm of upshifts.

I just pulled the motor and trans from 1971 Buick (350 motor and 350 trans) and I noticed it has a red wire on the right side, what is that wire for? thanks for any info Mike ps its not a turbo 400,it has a kick down cable, the 350 style pan and modulator pointing to rear.

Can you post a picture of the wire? And where does it connect? I have not seen any TH 350's from early years with a wire, I don't think.

On the 300, the wire is yellow and on the left side of the trans = it goes to the kick down switch on the accelarator.
being red, I'm thinking tach, or maybe cruise control or electronic speedometer. dunno if the 71 was a cable driven speedo
71 TH 350 has a speedo cable driven. No electrical connections. Manual detent cable on right side, and filler.
Did someone add a temp gauge or something to this trans?
