    1950 Buick

Hi there. Just wondering if someone can help me decipher the numbers on my 50 Buick.
    Vehicle ID number 60239604
I have just bought a convertible, and have just been handed the certificate of title which has (under body type model) 4dSDSP. by my reckoning it means a 4 door (4D) Sedan (SD) Special (SP)
Can someone correct me on this?
Hoping I havent bought a car which was not a convertible...
    thanks fellas

Under the hood there should be a rectangular data plate riveted to the firewall. Look at the model number on that plate. There are people here that will help you decode your model number.

Thanks for that. I'll get it checked out. Always frightful buying stuff sight unseen.

Still trying to get my car thru customs.

Still trying to get my car thru customs here. It is still in Georgia awaiting approval to import into Australia. We seem to have hit a snag. The Dept of Infrastructure has asked to see a picture of the build plate. However, I believe the build plate is missing....Hmmm. Not looking too good at this stage...

Sounds like you may be dealing with someone who doesn't know the differences between a 1950 and a 2011. If you have the VIN plate mounted to the front left door pillar and the body number plate mounted to the firewall (both with screws), then you have all the cars ever came with in the days.

Are you sure on that second digit of the serial number. The first 6 suggests a Georgia-built car but the second digit should be a 5. As a prevous poster said, you need that firewall plate with the series/model code on it. A 1950 convertible coupe is *6C - ie 56C is a Super and 76C is a Roadmaster. Anything else and it is not a convertible.

Yes, I think I am resigned to agree that it has been a chop job on a hardtop.
That 4dsdsp for body model seems like another giveaway...

Further to this weird vin number. 60239604.
I received a letter from the Aust govt department which imports cars and they told me the vin doesnt match anything related to a Buick. In fact, they said the vin matches a 1949 De Soto.
How can that be? Does that mean the chassis has been changed?
Yet, on the US Title document the vin is there and its registered as a 50 Buick.
    Any ideas, guys?
