Thread: 1961 Skylark cowl tag info., special ordered skylark?

    Cool 1961 Skylark cowl tag info., special ordered skylark?

    My '61 Skylark doesn't have power steering, and I believe it was a standard part of the "Skylark" option, along with the 185 HP 4BBL 215 aluminum V8, and vinyl top. The cowl tag has STYLE 61-4317, BODY FB 1275, TRIM 127, PAINT AA3, ACC A B 17 H This all looks normal in that their all upper case letters, my question is about the crooked 0 5 A that is on the upper left between the words BUICK and STYLE, and appears to be slightly smaller stamped letters than the "BUICK DIV. GEN..." and looks hand stamped cause they have irregular spacing and all three are not even close to being straight. Can anyone shed some light on the whole tag info. please? Oh, and the serial number is 3H1552322 Thank you for any help you can give.

    '61 Skylark

    Recheck your Style 4817.
    or
    Post a pic of the plate.

    Skylark should read 4317.

    05A = Time Build Code.
    05 = May
    A = 1st Week

    Serial No. states its a '61 Skylark assembled at Flint. Flint Production start at 501001.

    Tr127 = Gray Cloth & Vinyl Bucket Seats.
    Pnt. AA3
    A = Granada Black Lower Body
    A = Granada Black Upper Body
    3 = Wheel Color, Std on this car was Granada Black. So tell me what color you have and I'll update my notes.

    Sorry but my ACC codes are only back to '64-65.

    Hope this helps

    TY David. Sorry, you were right about the style, I used the method of "scribble all over paper pressed onto tag" so I'd have a copy imprint of the tag. Not always legible since the pencil still can darken in some areas that aren't embossed, and on the "style" part the open ends of the 3 reach very close to the center, and the numbers are from yet another slightly smaller punch than the others(hard to notice, but the style is different than the others, the one looks like a lower case l, while the others are 1, and the 3 on the others doesn't reach so close to the center). Your info. does help. So now it comes down to ACC breakdown. I can try to get the codes for tempest, F-85, or corvair, and maybe get lucky that they're the same. You were right about all the rest too! This car has 47,009 original miles, but has after market A/C, generator was changed to alternator, Holley 390 CFM instead of original, a new 2 speed powerglide, and an added hand pull parking brake. Did they not come with foot e-brake? Anyway thanks for your quick response.
