Thread: 320 ci 4 bbl fuel filter question

320 ci 4 bbl fuel filter question

I have a 52' roadmaster that has the original 4 bbl and 320 strt8. I am in the process of overhauling the fuel system. Restored tank & sending unit), hand bent fuel lines, new fuel pump, through the frame grommets, flexible fuel line etc.

I didn't install a sock or strainer on the sending unit as i was told it will only cause problems later on.
I am also asuming there is also some sort of coarse strainer that is in the fuel pump.

My question is: Is the factory fuel filter that this car has had for the last 58 years that is built onto the inlet side of the carburetor sufficient for proper filtration or should i add another filter?

320 CI 4 bb; fuel filter question

This is the pancake style, metal consructed I assume. They can be cleaned and used over. Also www.bobsautomobilia.com has period filters available if you would like to change.

Yes it is the pancake style. If this will still provide proper filtering after cleaning I'll use it. I wasn't sure if it would still do the job after all these years. I'm assuming it's a mesh filter that can be cleaned ?

We used to call them silver dollar filters. They can be taken apart and cleaned, but I run an auxiliary filter down near the fuel pump.
