Back in 49 (I think) Motor Trend tested an Olds 88 with a (Fulton style) outside sun visor. They ran speed tests both with and without the visor. According to what I remember the top speed was about 5 mph LESS with the visor in place; that would seem to translate into quite a bit of wind resistance which would affect both top speed and gas mileage at any highway speed.
