New '64 Skylark owner, build tag questions

New member, new Buick owner. Love the site here.

I recently bought a '64 Buick Skylark convertible. Using the handy reference guide here i was able to get assembly plant, time build code, model year, body type, and int trim off the build tag. I was unable to get the paint and accessory codes.

    Paint Code: C22
    Accessory Codes: 2P 3W 4Y 5W

From the paint chart here I know C is arctic white, but I don't know what the 22 references. And I see no accesory code decoder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Not C22

Its C 2 2, three different positions representing 3 different options.

Ok, that helps. So the car was Arctic White, but what does the 2 2 stand for? Going by what Year One's GM Body Tag Decoding page says, it should be a 2 digit body code/number.

BODY COLOR: To the left of the PAINT or PNT letters are the exterior color codes. On 1964 Chevrolets, the codes are all 3 digits (including two-tone cars, which have unique 3-digit codes). From 1965 to mid-1969, Chevrolet used 2 letters--the first is for the lower body color and the second is for the roof paint, vinyl top or convertible top color. Buick, Olds and Pontiac used this 2-letter system from 1964 to mid-1969. From mid-1969 to 1972, all divisions used a 2-digit code for the lower color, followed by a 2-digit code for the roof paint, or a letter for the vinyl roof or convertible top color.

Ive attached a pic of my body tag.

And I see no accesory code decoder.

don't know that we've got one. a year by year decoder for that would probably be too excessively big of a project.

somebody with an assembly manual or chassis manual might chime in though.

but I don't know what the 22 references.

it's part of the color coding, specifically for your convertible top.

typical color codes are a single letter plus a single number. i suppose a three digit code would option a two tone car + top. either that or an error was made stamping the plate. "2" is Black.

are there any books out there i can buy that has this info?

well, my "Catalog of American Car ID Numbers" has it. but not for the 60s year book, you have to have the 1970-79 book in order to decode vinyl top codes....

i'm assuming ( and hoping that i'm not making an *** out of you and me ) that that the previous years codes maintained continuity with the 1970 codes.

    sometimes that's a good working assumption ...
