Need help decoding 1965 Wildcat Custom

    Hi.

I'm new to this website and I have to say that I am amazed of its quality!

I have a lead on a '65 Wildcat Custom that is said to have a 425 2x4 in it.
This of course gave me the goosebumps and I had to track it down. I found the seller and had him take some pictures so that I could verify that it was an LX coded car.
All he sent me was the body number (my mistake, I told him to do that).

Now I have tried all day decoding the body number and I have come to a halt.
Do you guys think you can help me?

    ST 65-46637 FB 70015 BODY
    TR 673 JS * PAINT
    WX-2KZGTR-4F-5W

    Where was it made?
What color did it have from the factory?
Did it have a vinyl top? (the pics suggest it)
I've managed to decode 'WX-2KZGTR-4F-5W' which suggest that it is loaded with options and that doesn't exactly ease my nerves!

So, can anyone lend a hand? Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,
I will see if I can make sense of this tonight. I've got a lot of info and several cars to compare. I'll post soon,
Also if the block number or VIN number is available- the VIN will tell where it was made- H is Flint and most of the Super Wildcats were built there

678 for the trim code (673 does not make sense)
    6 is custom
    7 is bucket seats
    8 is black (4= white, 1= blue, 9=saddle)
260 65 Wildcat Custom Coupes with the "A-8" Super Wildcat option
let us know if you need anything else- good luck!

i don't believe the dual quad engine is going to be coded on either the VIN or trim tags.

it might be in the accessory codes, but i don't have anything to decode those.

this codes as a Flint Michigan car. "12E" means that it was manufactured in the 5th week ( E ) of December 1966.

"466" decodes as a Buick Wildcat Custom.

Yeah, thanks for the help Ted. This is one of those 260 cars. LX coded block, even though it seems that this one was made with the code the right side up.
I find this kind of strange since other number matches with the car and the intake has the right casting number with two four barrels on top. Everything seems to check out. And I can't find any trace suggesting that the surface has been machined, but. The L and the X are kind of far apart from each other, does that indicate something?
I've done some more research regarding options and I was a little disappointed(how the crap can i be disappointed when i found a 425 2x4 wildcat, i wonder) that the only option it is missing is cruise control. You know that button and the car accelerates? Would be cool.

Hey, do you know if these '65 cats were made with the handling package?
(1 inch lower suspension, quicker steering) I believe it could be added to the GS package in '66.

Wildcats for 65 and 66 could be ordered with the H2 heavy duty (rear) springs and shocks-not lowered
H2 for the Rivieras were "ride and handling" and included the faster ratio steering box.
(from 1965 Buick Accessory and Option Codes, Wholesale Car order forms)

I'm looking forward to hearing more!
I'm almost done with my LX engine for my 65 Wildcat Custom Coupe - the car has been restored and needs only my engine and interior. I can't wait!
