    455 rebuild

so today i took apart my 455 to rebuild and found that five of eight pistons were cracked and one of the bearings for the cam was broken. the cylinders look good and i am just going to buy a rebuild kit for it and put a little bigger cam in and i was wondering if it was still good to build because of the cracked pistons thanks for any help

    Thumbs up 455 rebuild

If a good machinist checks the cam journals and find them ok, go ahead and build it. You're going to have to bore the block and get new pistons any. 455 Buicks make gobs of power in stock form so you wont have to get very wild with the cam. Sounds like a good plan. Keep us posted.

would it be neccecary to bore the block? because i am kind of on a budget. would a hone work as good to clean them? i am new to building engines so any help appreciated.

You probably need to bore it for it to be it's best. Let your machine shop measure the cylinders to see how worn they are.

Ok, not ideal. I have honed blocks with sandpaper to get the rings to seal, and they ran like crazy until they blew up.

If it's not that bad, then you could be fine. I understand the budget. If you can't afford to bore it, then get it together and drive with what you can in my opinion.
