How about not enough gas, like the accelerator pump?

Could the vacuum secondaries be opening too fast?

    more power

Make sure the ignition is in good condition. Check the timing curve and base timing. If you have a vacuum advance, make sure it doesnt leak and has the right vacuum source. Ignition is generally the last thing looked at but can have you chasing a lot of nonexistant problems. I always check this first.

    yes, it will go lean.

like Bob pointed out, if your accelerator pump isn't working properly the secondaries will still squirt fuel. they just won't squirt ENOUGH fuel.
