    Further retarding the timing will only make it run hotter, not cooler. You have one or two problems (well, maybe more than that, but let's go after the two worst offenders first)- does it get hot at idle or under load? Heating up at idle, you can check that by feeling how much air is coming off the radiator, and how hot it is. If the fan seems like it's not pulling much air, shut the engine off and watch the fan spin. If it keeps on free wheeling after the engine is off, the fan clutch (if so equipped) is toast. If you're overheating under load on the road, it's likely your radiator.

    They can do pretty good. Not much else you can do if your mechanic has set it up to be the most efficient.

    I think i found problem causing other issues. the vacuum tank cannister was cracked. now i need a blower motor that just stopped working.
