I recently bought a 68 GS 400, or at least to this point I believe it is a real GS400. I checked out the cowl tag and the vin, and with the information on this website it all checks out so far. Even the heads on the engine matched up correctly with the info I have found on this site. On the engine it does have the 400 cast into the top of the engine by where the tranny mounts up. I have looked on the left side of the block to find the engine code and engine casting #. I can easily see the block code, which is P R 427, but when I look towards the front of the block to where the casting # should be, it is blank. The surface is clean and it doesn't look ground into or messed up in any way to me, just a clean machined surface with no signs of stamping. Does anyone know what this would mean?
More than likely the deck was blocked during a rebuild.
