    1970 skylark convertible frame

Hi, I have a '70 Skylark convertible its been in the family for 40 years and I want to keep it on the road. The last time I had it on the lift I was poking around the frame and put my finger thru the metal. Actually I put my finger thru both sides. It's very rusty underneath. The body was restored in the '80 and it looks pretty good on top.
The question is where are there replacement frames? Can I use one from a Cutlass or a Chevelle or a Lemans. There is a junk yard near me that has two Skylarks in their yard but they are hard tops and one is a four door. I would like to put disk brakes on it when I do the swap. The old drums never worked that well. I hope this is not more of a project then I am prepared for.

    1970 skylark convertible frame

Any of the mid-size GM convertible frames for that year will work, but you must use a convertible frame, not the hardtop frame. The hardtop frame is lighter weight and not as rigid as the convertible frame and will flex under the weight of the convertible body, pinching your doors closed. If no suitable convertible frames are available, you can reinforce a hardtop frame by welding angle iron to the frame, but this should be a last resort fix.
    Good luck with your project.
    Best Regards,
    Ron

Thanks for the info. I got a hold of a junkyard in south carolina. Said he had a frame. Inspected, sanded, primed not inexpensive. Since I just started looking I'll see what I can find. Maybe it was a good price I'll have to see what I find.
