Angry HELP FIND 68 GS 400 engine Code

I looked where my engine serial number was suppose to be and there's nothing there and there's a 70 where the Production code is. Is there somewhere else I could find the engine code or serial number on another part of the engine other than on the left side between the spark plugs? I also could'nt find any #'s stamped into my rear end and I need to know which one it is so I can replace the wheel bearings. Can someone help me? My e-mail is jefferyp1@cox.net

that's supposed to be stamped on a pad on the front of the passenger side axle tube. a wire brush might be handy.

i think a 68 should have an 8.2" rear end?

try the right side? 67 was supposed to be stamped on the passenger side and it's possible your 68 ( especially if it's early production ) was stamped the "old" way.

    Rear end

I took a wire wheel to the entire rear end down to bare metal and there's nothing stamped anywhere on the tubes. According to my information is they ran 10.5 rear ends but it could be 1 of 3 different one's. Could there be something possibly marking it on the inside?
