    Modifying awkward hood hinge

Has anyone successfully modified the forties twin side-hinge hood arrangement to the conventional rear hinge? I'm in the market for an early forties Buick and engine compartment access doesn't look too good!

A friend of mine went into great lenghts to convert a '49 Roadmaster to "alligator" hood hinging. But he never could get the hood and fenders fit each other as well as they did in stock form.

I like the Buick arrangement. When in need for greater access, I open both latches and lift the entire hood off. Takes two persons but only a few seconds!

I was also looking for a new way to hinge the hood on my 50 special.. The biggest problem I'm having is that the hood falls out of the other side and almost hits me whenever i use the prop rod that came stock, any ideas what might be wrong because it has me stuck??

The opposing hood lock sounds like it's not secured. Before you raise the bonnet fully, check that both opposite hinges are locked down securing the other side of the bonnet.

Sorting these hinges out can be a little troublesome but it's well worth it when they are working correctly.

i'd hate to hear u mess up those hinge's, don't mess up a good thing, takin the hood off is sooo much easier then remounting stuff. just remember buicks are beautiful, no matter how many times that hood hits u in the head!!

Sometimes just oiling all the rods and parts of the side hood hinges will restore good operation. The hood should not just fall out of the down-side hinges. Adjustments are covered in the shop maual.
