how much room behind ? , you should be able to drive out the broken one and put in the new one ..
Have a '92 Riviera. Was losing air in tires, took to tire dealer, they said
aluminum rims were problem & fixed same. Pulled rear wheels to check
on brake pads - had to use breaker bar plus extension to remove lugs -
needless to say, one stud broke while doing same. My manual is not real
clear on how to replace same. Guess my question is - do I have to
remove the hub and bearing assembly to replace wheel stud or can it
be done without removal of hub/bearing assembly ?

you should be able to press it out there is a hydraulic tool just for that, you may be able to rent one? I have a couple of screw type bearing pullers that I have used, or if nothing else make up your own screw type press, to push the stud out. whatever you do DON,T hammer it out, I have found out the hard way with chipped bearings. jus my opinion.

Thanks for the replies. Bought a new stud today - will probably try to
replace tomorrow. Hopefully will not have to remove hub & bearing
assembly to replace it. If can't find something to press it out, will
check couple parts places for rental.
there are some utube videos for removing wheel studs but some show driving the studs out, however it gives you an idee how its done, just remmber, watch out for collateral damage when using a hammer!
Yep - saw some of the UTubes videos plus others. My manual calls for
using tool J-6627-A for removal of stud - However, ran across an item
from CarQuest which sez to discontinue the use of this tool and to use
tool J-35917 or J-43631. Said use of tool 6627-A may damage the wheel
hub inner seal. It also went on to say "Do not remove wheel studs with
a hammer." Was a bit busy today so will try to work on it tomorrow.
Thanks again.
