Thread: New shocks

    New shocks

Can someone list some companies that rebuild, or sell new, the shocks on my 53?
Is it possible for a do-it-yourselfer to rebuild the shocks?
Does anyone know if someone makes a kit to adapt modern tube shocks to these cars?

As far as somebody that makes a kit to adapt modern tube shocks, to my knowledge, nobody makes one yet...I've looked, 'cause I was thinking the same thing for my '53. So pretty much I'm in the same boat as you, stuck with having my stock shocks rebuilt. There is a way to run modern tube shocks, but it requires using '54 Upper A-Arms, which again, nobody reproduces, so good luck finding originals. Here's an article about it:

Filler plug is on the top...it's angled. Here's the section of the shop manual showing it...scroll down to 6-5, and there's a picture of it.

As far as oil, I'm just gonna' order the shock oil from Kanter, unless I can get it from my local auto-parts stores. Not sure if I can get it locally, 'cause I haven't checked yet, but......I'm not sure if you can run other oil in them or not.

Yeah, I've got a few...some I've done, and some I've aquired as stencils. Just have to scan 'em. As or changing your picture size, use a photo editing program and resize them to 640x480 pixels. And save them as jpg. They should upload fine then.
