I REALLY want to do the 79 el camino springs from NAPA on all four corners til I can bag mine...what do ya guys think? 3 inch drop all over..

i think im gonna try cutting mine first...when i finally get around to it. i looked into the elky spring deal but there are different part numbers for springs of that era and will wait till I see it work on someones car. It certainly would be cheaper than custom made springs (dont buy from JAMCO!). Another member said the elky springs drop the rear 4" so you may not get the 3" all the way around.

56_buick, do you have any pics?

Here you go. 3" in the front, 2" in the rear ( rear bumper/gas tank/fuel Should even ride out more )

Sorry its so dirty, and the pics arn't the greatest. I haven't pulled it out since I finished painting it.

just measure your coil compressed, with motor, bumpers, full trim etc, Then just measure how much you want to lower it. Use a string line jig, and tape. Then use a cut off wheel if you can. Torch will weaken the spring a little more and might cause it to "droop" a little lower than anticipated.

If I remember right it was about 2.5 coils in the front, and about 1 7/8 in the rear. Im sure your car will be different however.

P.S. PLEASE chain or strap your springs down during the process of removing them, I don't want anyone getting hurt..

did you cut from the bottom or the top?
from what i understand, its better to cut from the bottom so you can jack the car up to get the wheels off?

Looks nice. I like your air cleaner. I'd like to ditch the old oil bath my 56 has. Any ideas?
