Question i need help with my engine

im 19 years old i have a 69 buick skylark with what i thought was a 350 engine but the casting numbers on the block match a 1970 buick 455 but the heads and intake match a 350 can you put 350 heads on a 455 block?

Hi, I don't think heads can swap...
To identify your block, use the Ref section above there's a chart there... I think an easy check is the starter: on pass side on small blocks (350) and on driver side on big ones (455).
Casting charts are uncomplete so try elsewhere to start.
I dono if it works for yours but my 67' 340 is casted '340-4' at rear under the block.
Hope it helps, good luck !

No, you can not put 350 heads on a 455 block. I'd say that you have a 350 and either the wrong block number or an unreliable source of info.

    i think they can

i looked up the casting numbers on this site. and my harmonic balancer is bad and i bought a buick 350 harmonic balancer and it did not fit because it was to small. the block and everything else looks exactly like a 455 so i think you can because my engine runs and drives and it has 350 heads and intake and a 455 block ill take pictures to night and up load them to this post.

400/430/455 blocks have the starters on the passenger, right, side. As well as do the 350 Buicks also. 400/430/455 have 5 bolts that hold down the valve covers. 350's have six. Where is your distributor located???

i have 350 heads on it i think but i will have to look how many bolts i have but i think i have 6 on each side i just wanna know about the block because i need to get a harmonic blancer and the 350 blancer i bought is way to small for how big the crank is

so i think you can because my engine runs and drives and it has 350 heads and intake and a 455 block i

    no you don't.

a 455 has 4.75" bore centers while a 350 has 4.24" bore centers. there is no way to fit Bu350 heads, intake or exhaust manifold onto a 455.

the block and everything else looks exactly like a 455

actually, i doubt this. but the obvious difference ( apart from the valve cover bolts ) is so obscure even a lot of Buick guys don't know about it.

the reason so many people mistake a Buick 350 for a big block is because of the extremely long stroke. the Buick 340/350 has a 3.850" stroke compared to a 400/430/455 which is 3.900". long strokes require tall deck heights. tall deck heights give you an extremely wide engine. wide engines ( too people used to looking at a SBC ) mean "big block".

the difference is where the timing cover mates to the oil pan. on a 350 ( or other small block Buick ) the timing cover makes a 90* angle and the oil pan extends under it in a straight line from the block. on a 455, the front of the oil pan droops down at a 45* angle where it mates with the timing cover.

but the casting numbers on the block match a 1970 buick 455

where did you find that casting number cross referenced? if it was here:
    http://www.teambuick.com/forums/view...bers_big_block

please let us know, and we'll correct it.

the 350 blancer i bought is way to small for how big the crank is

what model of 350 did you buy the balancer for?

if you just go into a parts store and ask for a 350 balancer, you're liable to get handed a Chevy balancer. that will never work.

the Buick 350 is a design that is completely unrelated to the Chevy 350.
