    What does it take to make a '68 400 cid engine into a 455 cid?

    yeah, they are the same stroke so to overbore the 400 by that much really isn't feasible. many of the rest of the parts do interchange though.

    455's aren't that expensive, put one together to play with and keep the 400 for restoration purposes.

    The block is not thick enough for the over bore. The oiling system for the valve train is differant but it can be done. If you have the good 400 heads I'd use them and a 455 block and 455lifters, pushrods and valve train, everything else should work.

    you can bore a 400 to 430 with no problems as they use the same block.
