Originally Buick did NOT use any gaskets between the exhaust manifolds & heads. Just a metal-metal contact. Head & manifold surfaces MUST be clean & straight. The thought was & is better heat dissipation with a metal-metal contact.
hi all
I'm new to owning an old buick and I am looking for a little help with buying the right Gasket Set for a replacement Exhaust Manifold.
My car is a 1955 Roadmaster with the 322 Nailhead
Doing searches on Ebay and parts stores and I have found sets that look different and I don't want to risk buying the wrong set and getting it shipped all the way to the UK.
the two sets I have found look like this:
and
so any help on which would be the correct set would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks in advance
John

Both gasket sets will work on the manifold to head seal. The first set also has the exhaust pipe gaskets that you may need.
If there were gasket before and/or if the surfaces of the manifold are irregular you will have to use gaskets. Be prepared to regularly check for looseness.

many thanks to you both for your replys. At least now if I do need gaskets I know which of the two would be better suited.
many thanks again,
John
