Sounds like you are chasing casting numbers which is not a good way to identify the year.

I can't seem to pin down a build year of a 322 engine I bought to put in my 54' special 2 door hardtop. The block number I got off the steel above the flywheel are 1885185. The head cast # is 1166349 which doesn't help pin down the year. The exhaust manifolds are (L) 1345465-2 (R) 1123998-2 which still is little help. Lastly the Intake manifold #1170617-1 which, of coarse, is not listed. If you have some insight please help me out.

The section on nail heads address only 57-66. What about the pre 57's.
There is an engine serial number located on the left side of the block deck near the center of the engine. This number will allow you to find out the year and model the engine came from.

2007 Corvette Coupe
would this be underneath the intake?
Thanks for the note, it is now updated
