Have you checked your points/condesnsor/coil? Very well could be ignition related...
I have a 1950 fastback with a 263 and we rebuilt the carb/carter and now as it starts to warm up it stalls.. It gets to about 150/170 and dies.. went to 12 volt system right before we built the carb. It really never ran that well in the first place. Any suggestions to what might be wrong with this car ? Anybody know how to set the needles/accelerator pump ??

I have replaced the Battery, Points, Condensor, Coil, Wires, Plugs, Rotor, Cap.
Check your heat riser valve to make sure it's not stuck open and boiling the gas in the carb. Maybe try pulling off your gas cap to make sure the tank is venting.

It was stuck so I took it off today.. Boy that was a beating. Got it free and I am going to put it back together tomorrow. Hope that was the problem. Gonna check the fuel pump next also.. How many pounds should it be at ??? Thanks again...
Make sure you use gaskets when reassembling your manifold after taking off that heat riser, or at least high temp silicone...there's a special torque sequence too...did you take the manifolds off the head? If so, torque the manifolds to heads (about 25 ft. lbs.), then tighten the rest of the assembly to about 20 lbs (in some cases, just tight since they're hard to get to!).
As far as the fuel pump, about 2 lbs. minimum should run it (or so)...if it's running over 5 or 6, that could also be your problem--flooding the carb. You can't get new pumps for this car, they need to be rebuilt.

Thanks Aaron, Would it have been a problem if my riser was stuck closed ? I see you said that if it was stuck open that would have boiled the gas. With it off the car the riser is wide open, is that correct or should it be closed beford I put it on.?
I actually unwound the bimetal spring to hold it closed all the time, but it would be open when cold, closed when hot.

Okay, So now I am thinking that the riser is not my problem. Mine was stuck closed and it ran terrible. It would run great until it warmed up and then it would start to stall like it was starving for gas.
Hmmmmm. Possible vacuum leak that doesn't show up until the choke is open? You might be looking at a dirty fuel tank, plugged carburetor, etc, but it's strange it only runs bad when warm.
