change rad. juice to anti-freeze and distiled water also make sure your ground is good from engine to body and frame. If your ph is to high in the water your freeze plugs will rot out fast.

    Stubbe,

Once you have the plugs in, you should do a flush on the cooling system while you have it drained. There is a product that you can use that will help break up the crud in all the cooling passage crevises, but at least run water through it until it becomes clear, then refill 50%-50% water to anti-freeze. Buy a good antifreeze such as Zerex or Prestone, Etc. Use a hydrometer that is used just for this purpose to check your boiling/freezing point levels, and adjust accordingly. The PH will change over time and this is why you should change this coolant mixture after a period of time. Each manufacturer has a recommended specified interval. I can't recall what our service manuals say for a nailhead, but you can also buy the PH test strips. I always use water out of the garden hose. I believe distilled water is overkill.
