Hey Knuck!
How U' Doin'?
It must be nice to have a "parts car". Can't get much better than having readily available parts at your disposal. Alway nice to be able to Pull something off the "Shelf".
I haven't had much experience with those Ceramic parts you speak of on the Firewall. and to have both of them turn out to be bad!
The only thing I can figure is this:
The Ceramic Part acts as an "Insulator" and I don't think that part is bad, it's the electrical connections particularly the "GROUND" Connections. A bad Ground will shut down and electrical system just as fast as a "Broken Wire" !
Have You Ever Noticed:
If there is any moisture at all on the hood! When you open the Hood ALL the Water Runs off and funnells down and pours on the Distributor and on those Fire Wall Connections! (Ford makes a Rubber Boot that will Protect the Distributor) !
I would venture to say that due to the "Water Fall" Effect I would venture to say that there is rust and corrision at those terminal connections fouling up the circuits:

I Think that You May find this HELPFULL! in trying to track down through the process of elimination and be able to isolate You particular problem.
Clean up those Delicate connections to start with (use some CRC) once cleaned up put some Dilectic Grease on them.

Tom Gallagher
