Can find out month build date from Vin?

Hi there!

I have a 63 Riviera which i am going to register in the UK but to make sure i get the correct registration plate i could do with being able to be able to state the month of build? did the 63 model year run from january to january or like alot other other manufacturers from August to August?

my vin is 7J1038769 and the body number is FB13597

Tim,

GMs model year runs from August 1st to July 31st.
For 1963, Aug. 1st,1962 to July 31st,1963.
7J1038769 only states that the car is a
7 = Riviera
J = 1963
1 = Flint Assembly
038769 = Serial or Frame Number

FB13597
FB = Buick Assembly Plant, Flint MI.
13597 = Fisher Sequence Number

To find out what month your Riviera was built, look
at the picture. This is a Fisher Body Plate located on
the drivers side (U.S.) on the cowl panel underneath the
hood.
On your plate above "STYLE" 63-4747 you will see
a "number and a letter" , this represents your build month and week of build.
On the picture you will see 4D = April, 4th week.

So would an August car be --H? mine is 12C so that's March 12th right?

here's a pic of my vin plate, can you decode the factory options and any other info that may be of interest? i think It's a fairly high spec car...

Hi, actually you should read 12c as December, third week.
Your car seem quite well optioned but you'll have to wait for Rivy's specialist to decode, sorry.

Ah yes, i think i got confused because over here we write dates as day/month, but now you mention it that makes much more sense
