1951 special front knee shocks swap for tube style shock?

Will the later style a arms with tube style shock swap out on my 51 with knee action shock? I've tried to fill knee shocks up with fluid but made no change. Just looking for options before I have knee shocks rebuilt.

    A-arms

U can use 54-56 A-arms. There use to be a tech a while back that showed how they used 54 units and came out bitching..that tech now cost $5.95 with shipping.

If you go to the Team Buick "Reference" section and scroll down to the "Library", then look for the link to an article "Knee Action Shock Upgrade".

Just weld a 78 to 86 F150 or Bronco shock tower to the frame adjacent to the stock knee action shock/A-arm, a tab on your lower A-arm and install a suitable length shock. That's the quick and dirty solution.

Are you saying to keep the stock shock to serve as the upper A-arm? If yes, how do I lubricate whatever bushings/bearings it has inside? Remember, most of us want to get rid of the stock shocks because the oil leaks out of them.

    Wink Shock replacement

I replaced mine about a year ago up through the coil centre and if you intend to drive the car a lot i figured you could install grease nipples, i didn.t bother as i do few miles.

I had my knee action shocks on my 52 rebuilt in the mid 90's. I was not happy with the way they worked. About seven years ago I sucked as much oil out of them as I could get and filled them full of chassis grease. I then installed tube shocks. As of yet I have had no problems with the old knee action shocks. I also replaced the sway bar with a larger one. Modern shocks are a 500% improvement. I have about 20,000 miles on this modification.
