Any other info available about the engine like what car it came from (Special, Century, Super, Roadmaster), and what year of car? Canadian built engines didn't follow the U.S. serial number format, any chance it is from a Canadian built car?
I have an engine that is cast poorly on the bellhousing 11651(8 or 6)5 it matches nothing in the tables. The number stamped on the left side of the block between the exhaust ports 1299193 No V in front, no - 4,5,or 6 at the end. Again no matches in the tables. *** ???

After searching Google, it looks like 1165165 is a casting number for a 322. The serial number 1,299,193 puts it in the range for 1955. Can you post a picture of the serial number? Spray it with some penetrating oil and clean it off first and then take the pic.

I was given the engine by a friend, no idea where it came from. The serial number is readable and clear, it was clean when I read it. I guess the Team Buick tables are lacking in info, and googling would give me better results ???
I am also having difficulty identifying a Nail Head Engine. Where are block #'s located? Cant find any on the bellhousing but found one (H127591) on the machined pad, left bank just in front of valley cover. The engine was pulled from a '64 or '65 Electra 225 and was mated to a switch-pitch THM 400
William, on the right side of that pad will be two letters. '64 would start with "K" KT=401 KW=425 1x4 KX=425 2x4 '65 would start with "L" LT=401 LW=4251x4 LX=425 2x4. '66 would start with "M" & follow the same routine. '63 would start with "J" & follow the same routine.

Hit the 'Reference' button at the top of the page and scroll down to engine ID, etc. Maybe your numbers will be listed, mine weren't. Good Luck, TC
I answered the question from William. I'm not referring to engine numbers but the identification letters on the right, passenger side of the pad in front of the valley pan. A '53-'56 don't have the same identifying letters. For that matter I don't think that '58-'59 do either. Don't have to get so cocky, all I'm trying to do is HELP!!!!!
Tom
That was easy !!!!! Thanks for the reply Tom. The engine is a 401. BTW, Engine, w/switch pitch 400 trans & posi final drive assembly (3.08) is for sale.;70,000 miles and all in good shape. What's better yet is ......I deliver! Thanks again guys
