    1933 inline 8, 33-60 timing

I have a customer with a 1933 straight 8 with timing gears and not a chain. Where are the timing marks? And where do I put them?

Usually with gear driven camshafts there is a punch mark on one of the teeth on one gear and two punch marks on 2 teeth on the other gear. The single punch mark goes between the 2 punch marked teeth on the mating gear.

When I put the punch marks together the number one piston is only half way up. It is not at top dead center. I put the distributer in and the motor will not run. is there any other options?

Just having the punch marks together doesn't mean the engine is at TDC. The marks only get things aligned. From that point set the TDC then go on to the distributor etc. and you should be good to go.
